Anti Theft Tracking Being Taken Up By Car Hire Companies

Car hire companies suffer a great deal at the hands of car thieves from abroad. The scam is very simple. Car thieves from abroad come to the UK to hire a car. They will often pick one of the more expensive vehicles. They will then simply drive the vehicle abroad and never return. These cars are very hard to recover.

Now it is reported that one of the major car hire companies is planning to install vehicle tracking in its large fleet of vehicles. The vehicle tracking will be fitted with an immobiliser.

This could help to considerably lower the theft of vehicles and increase the recovery rate of vehicles that are stolen. Both of which should lower the insurance premiums that car hire companies have to pay.

This problem will not go away and this type of crime is related to organised crime. Therefore criminals will just start hiring vehicles from companies that do not use vehicle tracking systems. For this reason it will eventually become a necessity for car hire companies to have anti theft vehicle tracking systems installed in their fleet of cars and vans. If they don’t they will simply be a target to foreign criminals.
