Potential bank robbers are having to revise their planning to cope with the latest innovative application for GPS tracking systems in the fight against crime – the Greek financial market is adopting an integrated satellite tracking solution to protect ATMs. Attempts to remove them from their hole-in the-wall is being averted by the inclusion of a tracking device within the ATM itself so that the machine’s movements can be monitored.
The GPS tracking device is capable of transmitting, in real time, the exact location of the ATM for instant retrieval; it operates in a format that is functional with all ATM types regardless of manufacturer. As well as this, the device contains sensors to monitor temperature changes, change of co-ordinates and also shock-detection, sending multiple alarms straight to the computer of whoever is responsible for monitoring them, allowing preventative measures to be initiated.
It is also possible, according to the variations in diverse locations and conditions of installation and operation, for devices to be pre-set with applications appropriate to the particular needs thrown up. There can be little doubt that what has been happening in Greece will spread globally within the next few years; it is going to take more than a ram-raid with a JCB to beat this technology .
