Fleet Tracking Systems
Fleet tracking systems are slightly different from regular tracking systems. Often they come with more benefits to a fleet company than the standard tracking device found on a personal vehicle. There are features added to the devices that are specifically targeted towards the fleet industry, which is why fleet tracking systems can be better for your delivery company.
Couriers or hauling companies have a proof of delivery (POD) system that they use to help keep track of their packages, but this doesn’t always help keep track of the employees. There can be times the employee is in a fleet vehicle, but not working. To help cut down on waste in a business the fleet tracking system can be used as an integration within the POD system. Performance of the workers and vehicles can be maintained, as well as helping to reform the management system for better quality.
Tracking systems can offer a cost benefit to companies in a number of ways. Some systems like the HGV’s may be a little expensive, but the features you are provided with go a long way towards helping. The HGV’s are setup with the Canbus system so that the data being offered is more explicit. For instance engine revving, miles used per gallon, stops, starts, etc. can all be tracked by the system.
Fleet tracking systems also have the ability to generate reports you may need on drivers and vehicles. These reports can be about excessive idling, mileage usage, work hours, who drove the vehicles or when maintenance on a vehicle will be required. Not only does the company benefit monetarily from the systems by reducing costs, but it can help in the training sector.
Many of the fleet tracking systems come with a training option where you can encourage the driver to improve their performance. A green light will tell the driver they are efficient and smooth. An amber light means the driver needs to improve. The red light signifies that the driver has yet to improve and perhaps will not. This will alert the manager that they may have an issue.
As a part of the fleet tracking systems other key features include temperature monitoring, panic buttons, and driver ID systems. The temperature monitoring works great for refrigerator trucks and any shipment that has a certain temperature that it needs to be at. The system will alert the driver if a temperature fluctuation occurs, so that they can correct it and ensure proper delivery. The Driver ID system tells the depot who is out with what vehicle. This helps assign issues to the right drivers, as well as monitor them for safety concerns.
The Driver ID links to the panic buttons and safety features of the fleet tracking system. Panic buttons are installed with the tracking system for emergencies. The driver can hit the button if they have a health emergency, an accident, or are being hijacked. It will send an alert to the depot allowing you and your managers to act quickly to get the driver the help they need.
