Fuel Being Wasted By Unnecessary Journeys
Many fleet managers agree that one of the biggest culprits for wasted fuel and a drivers time is the event of unnecessary journeys.
So many fleets are run in such a haphazard manner that engineers, delivery drivers and other mobile workers are send backwards and forwards from areas rather than doing all the work in one area before moving onto the next area. For example, if you are in W1 post code area to do a job and then go to NW1 to do another job , then go to N1 to do another job and then back to W1 to do yet another job. You are wasting time and money. You would have been better off staying in W1 to do both jobs. Plus if there is another engineer doing a job on W1 and another job in N1 give all the W1 jobs to one guy and give all the N1 jobs to the other guy.
Ok this does not always work in practice, but more often than not it does work. There are two ways to ecomplish this more common sense way of working. The first and main way is to train your managers who run this side of things to better organise the work or employ managers who have a clue in the first place. This is the main way to solve this problem.
Also you can use vehicle tracking to help keep on top of things. With features like nearest driver, you can keep on top of things even when jobs and workload change throughout the day.
