As we were all aware from Alistair Darling’s spectacular announcement back on 22nd April 2009, with the Budget, fuel prices were set to be raised by 2p from 1st September at 12.01am. The idea of fixing the price between then and now was to help with the current economic climate, helping regular citizens and businesses, make savings on their fuel costs.

Now that the prices have been raised, and that the cost can keep on rising, can vehicle tracking systems help you save money?

Vehicle tracking systems can monitor the mileage that a vehicle that has been fitted with the device, has done. This enables the owner of the vehicle or fleet managers to calculate the fuel cost within one journey. What difference does this make; you can do this manually?

Well the benefits of having the vehicle tracking system installed is that it can also monitor the time spent stationary and also the routes that the said vehicle has been taking. The vehicle tracking device can also enable you to select the routes that you can take, meaning the shortest route to your destination can be chosen and therefore less fuel can be used. Some vehicle tracking systems also have the ability to direct you around traffic, meaning less time and money is wasted sitting in huge traffic jams.

For the fleet managers, the device can create reports showing all of the information above which will enable them to monitor their employees and for both fleet managers and those with vehicle tracking systems for a personal use, can use these reports to calculate the savings that have been made.

So, the rise in fuel costs will be noticed within your monthly spend, but with vehicle tracking systems you can lower this cost once again, defying the budget.
