Google Maps and Vehicle Tracking

More and more vehicle tracking systems now use Google Maps to display the location of the vehicles they are tracking. Navman Wireless has just this week announced that they have started using Google Maps with their tracking systems.

Some vehicle tracking systems use Microsoft Maps, but most are using the Google alternative. The reason most telematics companies give is that Google Maps gives an apparelled quality of online mapping service which is free for the telematics companies to use. It’s a win win situation. Plus many users are already familiar with Google Maps and therefore are more comfortable using it as appose to systems that they have never seen.

It just shows you how the applications that Google are producing are making facet of our daily lives. Google is a threat to Microsoft for this reason. Google it is ahead of the curve on how we use computers.

Google Docs is a great example of how people may end up using the their computers in the not so distant future. With everyone uploading working directly in Google Docs and having very little of nothing saved to their local machine. Now Google is going intercepting niche areas such as vehicle tracking systems.
