An Australian trucking company called Linfox has just installed GPS tracking devices across their fleet of trucks, the main reason for this, is to help with making their drivers safer on the roads. Since the company was formed Linfox has had six drivers killed and a number seriously injured over the years.
This GPS tracking system allows their fleet manager to track and monitor a moving trucks location and speed. Also the system uses an automatic braking which has a radar sensor which can bring a vehicle to a halt if necessary. This is a very impressive trick that can be employed if a driver were to fall asleep at the wheel or losing concentration.
Unions are suspicious of this technology as they fear it could be used as a big brother style device to monitor employees rather than aid them. They fear that employers might start with good intentions but after a while start using it as a means to spy on employees.
Safety campaigners’ fully endorse the use of this technology as a means to reduce deaths on Australia’s roads. They insist that these devices can help drivers keep within the speed limits as they know the company is able to monitor their speed.
