GPS Tracking Devices help in Police Investigations
Police are now able to monitor suspects using a GPS Tracking Device. Usually the tracking device is installed in to the suspect’s vehicle however, sometimes Police Officer’s are able to track other items that are belonging to the suspect.
Normally it is routine for Police Officer’s to obtain a warrant, allowing them to attach a GPS Tracking Device to a suspect’s vehicle and enabling them to monitor the suspect’s whereabouts without having to keep visual contact. Only via a computer screen, meaning more work can be being
GPS Tracking devices, such as those that track vehicle have already been successful in the capture of a woman being stalked by her former boyfriend. By using the device Police were able to track and apprehend the former boyfriend before he caused any physical harm to his ex – girlfriend.
At the moment there is some concern that by using these GPS devices to monitor the suspects it is invading ones privacy, so therefore courts were in debate whether or not Police Officer’s can use this without gaining a warrant first. The decision being, in order to protect ones privacy a warrant is needed if tracking is to take place.
So, as technology evolves and new systems are adapted, Police are able to watch suspects as they go about their daily activities, to monitor what they are doing and of course deal with the suspects in a way that they need to be dealt with either by arresting them or giving them a caution. Also, by using these GPS tracking devices the Police are able to monitor their suspects more effectively without being put in any immediate danger. This technology is assisting the Police Officer’s in making our communities a safer, friendlier environment.
