GPS Tracking Devices Making Life Safer For Altzheimer Sufferers
A ten year research program by the department of justice and the altzheimers association in America has found that wandering is the most common life threatening behaviours that effect Alzheimer’s patients across America. Wandering is a unique condition that most patients suffer from, patient often get lost even in areas that are familiar to them, usually giving care givers a considerable worry. GPS tracking devices have now given an added element of safety to sufferers.
GPS tracking devices are either fitted to patients via an ankle bracelet or worn on a neck chain, they are even small enough to be fitted into clothing. These devices are able to give a real time position of the wearer to within four meters of their exact position; this information is relayed to a computer screen watch by a dedicated care giver or nurse. The GPS tracking devices usually have an ability called geo fencing; geo fencing allows the user to set a pre-defined area that a GPS device is allowed to travel within, if a GPS device travels outside of this area an alarm is sent to a mobile phone or computer screen.
This use of GPS tracking again demonstrates the versatility of this technology and the many different areas of our lives it and benefit.
