GPS Tracking To Help Athletes

The majority of people will be familiar with the term ‘GPS tracking’ as a system to aid fleet managers to get the best out of their vehicles and employees; now an Australian company are trailing a new GPS system to help coaches to keep an eye on players during matches in Australian rules football.

Players are being fitted with a light weight vest which contains a small GPS tracking device, which enables coaches to monitor how far players have run, how far they run and amazingly how hard they have been hit when tackled. This type of GPS tracking system enables coaches to tailor training methods for each member of their squad during training sessions.

This GPS system is able to be utilized to work during a game, this gives a coach vital information when deciding to make substitutions. The added benefit of being able to monitor how many big hits a player has taken, as players can only take so many before their stamina starts to degrade.

As for television viewers it could add another dimension to watching a game as statistics on each player could be viewed during a match. If this trail is successful its sure to filter through to other sports such as football etc
