A recent survey completed by Digicore in 2010 shows that 55% of HGV companies are using GPS tracking technology to run their fleets. This shows a significant rise since a survey conducted in 2008 which showed that only 25% of HGV firms were using GPS vehicle devices to run their fleets. In addition the new survey is showing that GPS vehicle tracking is now becoming a much valued tool, with 96% of operators stating that it benefitted their business.
The survey has showed that the main reason for companies adopting GPS vehicle tracking technology is to improve productivity. Also the survey highlights that companies are achieving a wider range of benefits such as, reduced costs (77%), added security against theft (52%) and enhanced employee performance. In addition companies it is helping companies meet requirements for duty of care and working time regulations.
Companies who didn’t use GPS vehicle tracking technology stated the reason why was because it didn’t meet their requirements or it was too expensive. The findings of this survey conducted by Digicore support the fact that the implementation of GPS vehicle technology into an HGV fleet results in increased productivity, and enhanced employee work rate. Also it demonstrates a return on their initial investment.
