The Main Types of Vehicle Tracking Available
There are 3 main types of GPS vehicle tracking that can be found out there.
The first type of tracking is known as passive tracking. This type of tracking normally requires a one off fee to setup the systems but does not incur any monthly fees.
The biggest disadvantage with passive vehicle tracking is that there is not a real time location of the vehicle that is being tacked. The vehicle can only be tracked once it has returned to a selected base. Of course as is probably obvious to you, this doe mean that the companies are losing out on some of the better advantages of a vehicle tracking system, such as monitoring the vehicles and being able to give customers a better timescale of when they can expect their delivery to arrive.
Cellular tracking can also be used. This tend to be the cheapest out of the three mentioned in this article to be set up. You will normally have to pay a monthly fee which covers the cost of this tracking service.
Again, the disadvantage of this is that you are not provided with a real time location of the vehicle but unlike passive tracking the systems are updated approximately every 5 – 10 minutes, so giving a little bit more of an accurate location of the vehicles. You are able to view the location of your vehicles on a secure internet website.
The second disadvantage of using cellular tracking is that this does not provide any protection should the vehicle be stolen.
The third and final type of tracking I am going to mention is satellite based tracking systems. This system is one of the most popular systems which are able to give exact locations of the vehicles all around the country. This is the system that is widely used.
