Thieves Use GPS Jammers

One of the largest use of vehicle tracking systems is for security. Many insurance companies insist on vehicles being fitted with stolen vehicle tracking systems. The insurance company insist on them being Thatcham approved.

For a while there has been the technology to jam GPS vehicle tracking systems with a jamming device. Now it has been reported that gangs of car thieves are starting to use these devices to jam the tracking system so that they can make away with other peoples expensive cars.

The jamming equipment disturbs the timing signals being transmitted by GPS systems by transmitting a signal at the same frequency. This then drowns out the signal. In turn this makes it impossible to track the vehicle as it falls off the radar.

These type of systems are imported from China and will no doubt become more and more popular with villains. Car crime is now very organised and many of these cars are stolen to order. Therefore they will know what they are looking for and if they are likely to need a jamming device. The market for such jamming devices has come about as a solution to thieves’ problem of stealing expensive cars which they can get guaranteed sales for.
