There are 3 different types of GPS Vehicle Tracking.
The first one is cellular tracking. It is cheaper to setup than the other three types of vehicle tracking systems. You usually have to pay once a month for this type of tracking service.
Cellular tracking systems do not give you the most up to date information as they only tell you every 5 to 10 minutes if where the car, van or truck is.
When using cellular tracking you can view the whereabouts of your vehicles on a secure internet site.
The second type of vehicle tracking is passive tracking systems. With this type of vehicle tracking you usually do not have to pay a monthly fee, but however you do usually have to pay an expensive one off fee to setup the system.
The big problem with this type of vehicle tracking system is that the information about the vehicles whereabouts cannot be seen until the vehicle returns to base. This does mean that some of the advantages of having vehicle tracking are lost. One of these advantages that would be lost is being able to give customers an accurate idea of when their deliver will be. The reason for this is that you cannot see where the vehicle is.
Another disadvantage is that it provides no protection if the vehicle is stolen.
The third type of vehicle tracking system is satellite based tracking systems. These systems give tracking around the entire country and are very popular systems to use.
