Tracking Used On Top Gear

In the latest episode of Top Gear shown on Sunday 12th July, James May and Richard Hammond attempted to race a letter across the country in a Porsche Panamera. This was a typical kind of game to play on the quirky motoring show.

Usually when they have such races they would keep in touch with each other via mobile phone, but they weren’t racing each other. They were racing a letter and letters as we all know cannot use mobile phones.

Therefore they inserted into the envelope of this letter a tracking system so that when they went on the long journey from the most south westly point of the UK to the most north westly point of the UK they could see on their laptops exactly how the race was going and who was in the lead.

This is yet another novel use of vehicle tracking systems and just goes to show how versatile and useful this technology is. It can even be used for races.

Once upon a time a race like this would have either been impossible or a dam site more expensive to do. You would have had to have someone follow the letter all the way through its journey.
