It seems that real time GPS tracking systems are being offered as an incentive by a particular petrol station in Istanbul, Turkey. The deal that has been organised means that the taxi driver is entitled to a tracking system, but they are required to get their fuel from this petrol station with a set amount each month for 3 years before the system, named ‘MOBESE’ standing for Mobile Electronic System Integration, is fitted.
The petrol station will be providing the manpower to install the systems. All of the systems will be fitted with a panic alarm/button, which if pressed will contact the police who will be able to track the vehicle immediately.
Both the government & the police of Turkey are said to have been supporting this project. Although, this projected is starting off in Istanbul, they are hoping that the incentive will be offered to the rest of the country.
This is another great example of vehicle tracking being used for security and safety purposes. If this experiment works well it is exactly the type of project that will be copied by others in not only Turkey, but around the world. Safety for cab drivers is becoming more of a priority as there is an increase in petty criminals targeting cabs.
