Vehicle Tracking And Other Ways to Increase Road Safety

It is quite obvious to fleet companies that vehicle tracking systems are helping to motivate staff and increasing productivity, but it is also increasing road safety for everybody. Most staff that are aware that a vehicle tracking system has been fitted to the vehicle they are driving and will be taken up on, on the way that they are driving will tend to improve on their driving without even thinking about it. But are there other ways to help increase road safety?

Yes there is, training is a must have when fleets are employing new staff and also existing staff. It s good to keep training existing staff as people get complacent with driving and the training should ensure that the how the vehicle is driven is at the forefront of the staffs minds.

The vehicle themselves should be monitored. If the vehicles are regularly services then it is less likely for the vehicle to fail on something when needed, i.e. brakes failing. It is important that the fleet companies look after the vehicles that they send out as part of Duty Of Care.

There is also a technology that is not so well known by fleet managers, ESC (Electronic Stability Control). This technology is able to detects skids and can minimise them by applying to breaks on one or more of the wheels when needed to decrease the chances of accidents.
