  • Vehicle tracking software is an interface that allows the user to intuitively track the location of their fleet of vehicles and to also configure any different settings that they want their tracking system to have. This article aims to give a brief overview of the different aspects of this hugely important software.

When it comes to vehicle tracking software, there are generally two different types: internet based and thin client. These both have a number of differences, but the end result should always be the same – an effective monitoring system that increases the productivity and customer service level that the business can offer.

A thin client tracking system means that the user has to download a small application and then install it on to the computer that will be used for the tracking software, whereas an internet based system displays all of the data on a secure website, meaning that no installations are needed. Both of these types need an active internet connection to work, but the biggest difference is that the internet based solution can be accessed from any computer in the world. The major advantage that the thin client has though is that it is more secure and therefore suitable for businesses that take security very seriously. Most people choose the internet based system though, as updates are instantaneous and also because it is easier to access.

Both types of vehicle tracking software do share a number of similarities though. They can both reveal the real time location of any vehicle in the fleet, both usually have a satellite image overlay on the map and both are usually able to generate multiple reports at the click of a button.
